The Hospital Universitario Mútua de Terrassa is a third level teaching hospital associated with the Public Hospital Network (Xarxa Hospitalària d'Utilització Pública, XHUP) of Catalonia . This institution is associated with the University of Barcelona for education in pre and postgraduate courses.
This Hospital has 481 beds and more than 30 medical and surgical specialities. The Service of Thoracic Surgery is staffed by seven thoracic surgeons: Josep Belda Sanchís (Head), Ramón Rami Porta (Attending), Mireia Serra Mitjans (Attending), Roser Saumench Perramón (Attending), Carlos Bidegaín Pavón (Attending), Manuela Iglesias Sentís (Attending) y Elisabeth Martínez Téllez (Attending ). In 2002, the Service was given Teaching Accreditation for postgraduate training of residents in Thoracic Surgery . Currently, there are 3 residents: Carme Obiols Fornell, Cristina Pellicer Sabadí y Sergi Call Caja.
The Service of Thoracic Surgery takes care of a population of more than one million inhabitants distributed among several areas: Vallès Occidental, Vallès Oriental, Bages, Berguedà in the province of Barcelona , and Solsonès, in the province of Lleida , and Andorra.
In 2008, more than 400 major operations were performed with a complexity factor of 3.014. The average hospital stay of patients admitted in the service was 5.9 days.
